Recognizing the early warning signs of a failing system can help you avoid a total backup and costly emergency repairs. Look out for the following indicators:

  • Surrounding Surface Changes: Standing water, or ground that feels unusually wet or mushy over the tank or leach field.
  • Irregular Plant Growth: Grass grows faster and appears greener over the septic system, particularly during extreme summer or winter weather.
  • Fixture Performance: Sinks and toilets that drain slowly or frequent plumbing backups.
  • Audible Warnings: You may hear unusual gurgling sounds coming from your indoor plumbing. If you have pumped recently this could be a sign of trouble.

Important Note: Septic systems can sometimes fail without any visible or audible warning signals. Because of this, we recommend frequent pumping or a yearly professional inspection.
